TRAIL RIDES

Come ride gentle horses through the towering old growth forest of Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve. The adjoining Austin Creek State Park is a wilderness of well-groomed trails exploring the Coastal Mountains of Sonoma County. Five different biotic communities with inspiring views and pristine streams await your discovery.

In small personal rides, beginner through advanced riders enjoy a streamside trail through the peaceful cathedral of giant redwoods. Climbing through woodlands and chaparral to warm mountaintop meadows, riders dismount to rest and enjoy spectacular sweeping vistas.

All rides are guided exclusively by the owners, Jonathan and Laura Ayers.  They always schedule extra time for a ridgetop rest or lunch stop, as well as riding instruction on quiet well-loved Quarter Horses they trained themselves.

Requirements:  Two rider minimum, four rider maximum. Weight limit 200 pounds with BMI under 30, good physical condition with ability to mount unassisted.

POOL RIDGE TRAIL RIDE:                                                                                                                          
  • 10:30 am to 1 pm                                                                                                                                     
  • 2 pm to 4:30 pm      
  • Flexible hours Spring and Fall with optional lunch stop. 11am to 2pm is popular.
  • Riding time 1.5 hours.

FULL DAY RIDES:

Bring lunch, saddlebags provided. Ride through deep redwoods, conifers, oak woodlands, and wildflower meadows on the ascent up McCray Mountain. A sweeping view over several counties is your reward. Sprawl upon the grassy crest to enjoy your picnic lunch before descending another ridge into the heart of the Redwoods.                                                                                                    4 person Summer minimum, 2 person off-season, or call for availability.

HORSE HEAVEN:                    11am to 3:30

McCRAY MOUNTAIN:           10:30 to 4pm
